Document Legalization

Documents such as Adoption papers; Court decisions; Birth, Marriage, Divorce or Death Certificates; Trademarks, Founding documents of Non-governmental Organizations, Power of Attorney, etc that originate in the Benelux countries have to be legalized by the embassy of Ethiopia in Brussels before they are used in Ethiopia.

Authenticating Documents Originating in the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg)

For Citizens of the Benelux and Other Nationals:

• Notarized by competent authority, and authenticated documents by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where the document originated;
• Copy of valid ID (or passport for Property related documents for
• Service fee of Euro 82.60 or Euro 87.00 (depending on the nature of the document) in cash;
• A self addressed return envelope with prepaid postage (for those using mail service)

For Ethiopians and Holders of Ethiopian Origin ID:

• Notarized by competent authority, and authenticated documents by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where the document originated;
• Copy of valid Ethiopian passport for Ethiopians;
• Copy of Ethiopian origin ID Card for foreign nationals of Ethiopian Origin;
• Service fee of Euro 53.95 or Euro 56.15 (depending on the nature of the document) in cash;
• A self addressed return envelope with prepaid postage (for those using mail service);

Authenticating Documents Originating in Ethiopia

Documents originating in Ethiopia have to be authenticated first by the Foreign Ministry of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa, and then by the embassy of the country accredited to Ethiopia where the document shall be used. i.e. embassies of the Benelux countries in Addis Ababa.

Provided that all requirements are fulfilled; the service will be delivered immediately.
NOTE: Documents are not considered legal in Ethiopia unless legalized by the Foreign Ministry in Addis Ababa.
